Day of Charity to help Portage Hospital Foundation
The Portage MCC will dedicate some funds from Tuesday’s sale to the Portage Hospital Foundation as they continue fundraising for their new chemotherapy department.
Erin Miller-Simpson, executive director of the Portage Hospital Foundation, said the funds will go a long way to help the local hospital.
“All the funds will go towards the expansion and renovation of the chemotherapy department, which is $85,000. It’s a great partnership between us and the MCC,” said Miller-Simpson.
“The community has been great in supporting us and we’re hoping to have a record-breaking day,” she said.
The chemotherapy department still needs another $30,000 to complete their plans for the overhaul and a portion of proceeds will go to the Foundation in the weeks to come.
Proceeds from the Portage Hospital gift shop, personal donations, their gala dinner last month and other efforts which turned funds, will all go to the Foundation’s project for the new department.
Kevin Hamm, manager of the Portage MCC, said that he was excited to help the Portage Hospital Foundation raise the funds, admitting he underestimated the amount of positive work they do in the community.
“We really like the connectivity of this partnership because we have a lot of volunteers who frequently benefit from the work that the Foundation does,” he said.
“It’s really nice to be able to work together with them. I didn’t realize how much work that they do to support the community and it’s good when we can partner with new organizations like this and help the community in this way.”
Hamm added there were 60 people lined up and ready for get their hands on some items at the Portage MCC. It’s been really, really busy and I think we’re right on track to having one of our best-ever fundraising days.
